Islamabad: Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, has called on the business community to embrace environmentally responsible practices in support of Pakistan’s climate objectives. Meeting with a two-member delegation from the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), led by its president, Rehan Naseem Bharara, Ms. Alam proposed convening a nationwide roundtable conference for chambers to raise awareness on carbon credit initiatives and engage the private sector in transitioning to clean energy.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Ms. Alam emphasized the government’s commitment to tackling the climate crisis with policies focused on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development. She urged businesses to adopt energy-efficient technologies, reduce waste, and incorporate environmentally responsible production processes.
Ms. Alam also highlighted the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) policy, suggesting its integration into local industries to help businesses manage their carbon footprint. FCCI President Bharara expressed support for the government’s climate initiatives and reaffirmed the Chamber’s dedication to advancing environmental sustainability in the Faisalabad industrial sector.
Both parties agreed to enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Climate Change and the FCCI to develop a sustainable green economic model in the region. The meeting concluded with a commitment to crafting a strategic framework positioning Faisalabad’s industries as leaders in Pakistan’s green transformation.
