Power Minister Directs Measures to Minimize Load-Shedding Duration

Islamabad, Minister for Power, Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, has issued directives to power distribution companies to enhance their performance and reduce the duration of load-shedding across the country. Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad today, he emphasized the importance of transparency in presenting daily electricity demand and supply details to the public and announced plans to overhaul the management of distribution companies with competent personnel.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Leghari identified high loss feeders, technical faults, and electricity theft as major contributors to power outages. He highlighted ongoing efforts to revamp the system gradually to address load-shedding issues and alleviate the shortfall of 4232 megawatts nationwide. Minister Leghari disclosed plans to overhaul 150 loss-making feeders in Punjab, 700 in Sindh, 350 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and approximately 80 in Balochistan.

Furthermore, Minister Leghari assured the public of the country’s ample electricity generation capacity and pledged to meet the demand for electricity during the summer and the upcoming year. Minister of State for Power, Ali Pervaiz Malik, echoed the call for public cooperation in identifying power theft as a crucial step in overcoming load-shedding challenges.
