President Zardari Advocates for Enhanced Investment in Gilgit-Baltistan

Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the importance of socio-economic development in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) during a meeting with the GB Council at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The President discussed strategies to drive economic prosperity through increased investment in the region, underscoring the potential benefits for local infrastructure and the broader national economy.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting, attended by key regional and national leaders including the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and GB, Engineer Amir Muqam, and Chief Minister GB, Mr. Gulbar Khan, focused on the developmental and financial needs of Gilgit-Baltistan. President Zardari reassured the delegation of his commitment to enhancing health, education, and road infrastructure to improve the quality of life for residents. He also proposed expanding Gilgit’s airport and exploring new development avenues to leverage GB’s strategic position as a gateway to China.

Furthermore, the President addressed the discontinuation of the Sehat Sahulat Programme, suggesting its integration with the Benazir Income Support Programme to ensure continued access to health services for the people of GB. This discussion highlighted the government’s proactive approach to resolving ongoing issues and facilitating substantial economic growth in the region.
