Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has voiced satisfaction over the government’s measures aimed at curbing inflation and reducing unemployment and poverty. During a Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad, he highlighted the government’s progress in these areas and expressed optimism about Pakistan’s economic future, including securing vital international support and enhancing security measures for foreign nationals working in the country.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif shared his anticipation for the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) release of the last tranche of $1.1 billion under the standby agreement expected this month. The Finance Minister’s ongoing visit to Washington for discussions with the IMF for a new program was noted as a crucial step towards achieving economic stability and gaining confidence from other international lenders.
Sharif also detailed his recent visit to Dasu, where he met with Chinese engineers and workers, committing to a comprehensive security mechanism in cooperation with provincial governments for the protection of Chinese nationals in Pakistan. This move underscores the importance of foreign investment and the safety of international partners in the country’s development projects.
Further elaborating on his government’s proactive approach, Sharif mentioned a sectoral review of ministries aimed at addressing their challenges effectively. The investigation into letters received by various judges containing suspicious powder highlights the government’s concern over security and the rule of law.
Additionally, the cabinet approved significant appointments and reforms, including members of the National Commission on Status of Women and the strategic decision to abolish certain child welfare departments in line with the National Commission on the Rights of Child Act, 2017. This decision aligns with the government’s austerity policy and the efforts to streamline operations for efficiency.
The cabinet also approved international honors for former Naval Chief Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi, reflecting the government’s recognition of distinguished service and fostering goodwill with other nations.
These developments indicate a multi-faceted approach by the Prime Minister and his cabinet towards addressing economic, security, and governance issues, demonstrating a commitment to improving the nation’s standing both domestically and internationally.
