Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Advocates for Expanded Pakistan-Iran Cooperation

Karachi, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the need for Pakistan and Iran to intensify their collaboration in trade, energy, transportation, cultural exchanges, counter-terrorism, and security. This assertion was made during a conversation with Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam, who made a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister in Islamabad.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the profound and historical ties between Pakistan and Iran, describing the relationship as historic and brotherly. He expressed gratitude for Iran’s support on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir and also broached the situation in Palestine during their discussions.

Recalling his previous engagements with Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, including the joint inauguration of a border market and an electricity transmission line last year, as well as their meeting in Samarkand during the SCO Summit, Sharif conveyed his appreciation for the congratulatory message and telephone call from President Raisi following his re-election.

Ambassador Moghadam provided an overview of the current state of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran, reaffirming Iran’s eagerness to enhance its relationship with Pakistan across all sectors of mutual interest. The meeting underscored a mutual commitment to deepening the multifaceted cooperation between the two neighboring countries, aiming to foster a closer partnership in the face of regional challenges and opportunities.
