Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Advocates for Stronger Tobacco Control Measures on World No Tobacco Day

Islamabad, On World No Tobacco Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to combating tobacco use, highlighting new initiatives and calling for collective action to protect public health, especially among children.

According to Press Information Department, this year’s theme, “Protecting Children From Tobacco Industry Interference,” focuses on reducing tobacco use and its impact on public health. Prime Minister Sharif outlined the government’s stringent measures, such as increased taxation on cigarettes, enhanced pictorial health warnings, and comprehensive bans on tobacco advertising and promotion.

These efforts aim to curb tobacco consumption and prevent the health risks associated with smoking, including cancer and cardiovascular diseases. The Prime Minister urged civil society, NGOs, and media to join the government’s efforts to eradicate tobacco use in Pakistan and promote a healthier future for all citizens.
