Srinagar, Students and doctors of Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, held a protest against a non-local medical student who put a blasphemous display picture on a messaging app.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a spokesperson of the Resident Doctors Association, GMC, Srinagar, said that they had given the non-local student three hours to remove the offending display picture, but the student refused. This refusal led to a protest by students in anger.
The protesting students demanded strict action against the non-local student for the act, which they said had hurt the sentiments of Muslims. Meanwhile, the Resident Doctors Association of GMC, Srinagar, strongly condemned the act of blasphemy perpetrated by the undergraduate medical student.
“Such an egregious transgression not only grievously wounds the religious sensibilities of many but also imperils the very fabric of societal harmony and mutual respect, which we hold dear,” the RDA said in a statement.
Protests broke out at the Government Medical College, Srinagar, over a post by a non-local medical student against the Prophet of Islam, officials said. Dozens of students and several junior doctors held a protest against the medical student, demanding action for hurting the sentiments of Muslims.
Meanwhile, Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi Al Safvi, President of Anjuman Sharie Shian, strongly condemned the blasphemous remarks made against Prophet Muhammad (SAW), terming them a deliberate attempt to dehumanize Muslims. In a press release, he called for stricter laws to penalize those making disparaging comments and appealed for communal harmony and peace, emphasizing the importance of protecting religious sentiments and fostering coexistence.
IIOJK’s Grand Mufti, Nasir Ul Islam, urged the administration to take swift and severe action against the outsider who made blasphemous remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on social media. The Mufti emphasized that such offenses are unacceptable in any civilized society and appealed for respect and tolerance towards religious figures, condemning the defamatory act as a threat to the peaceful atmosphere in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Tehreek Ittehad Islami Jammu and Kashmir General Secretary Maulana Mufti Mudassar Ahmad Qadri strongly condemned the blasphemous act, calling it “unacceptable” and “arrogant.” He emphasized that the honor and respect of the Prophet (PBUH) cannot be compromised and demanded action against the perpetrator.
NC leader and Indian parliament member Ruhullah Mehdi said in a statement that it has become a habit of some students in different institutions of Srinagar to post objectionable content about Prophet (SAW). He noted that the recent offense from a student in GMC, Srinagar, is a fresh example. These repeated offenses cannot be tolerated in any civilized society, and the Srinagar administration should take immediate action and book this offender immediately under the law.
