Punjab Chief Minister holds meeting to review wheat procurement campaign

Lahore, May 09, 2018 (PPI-OT): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting to review the wheat procurement campaign through video link, here today. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that no one will be allowed to exploit the wheat farmers in the province and added that role of middlemen will not be tolerated in wheat procurement. Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that he will personally monitor the wheat procurement in every district.

He directed that protection of interests of wheat farmers should ensure at every cost and facilitation of farmers should be ensured during the wheat procurement. Strict monitoring should be ensured in every district to eliminate the role of middlemen and strict legal action be initiated against the middlemen that exploit the farmers, he added. He reiterated that protection of interests of the farmers will be ensured during the wheat procurement campaign and no one will be allowed to usurp the farmers’ rights.

Action will be initiated against the concerned officers as well as the administration wherever any complaint is received about the distribution of gunny bags. Farmers are my brothers and protection of their interest has been confirmed earlier and in the future as well, he added. He said that ministers, advisors, special assistants and secretaries will personally supervise the wheat procurement campaign and added that he will also personally monitor the wheat procurement campaign.

He directed that commissioners and DPOs should daily visit wheat procurement centers and submit their reports. A briefing was given by the food department officials regarding wheat procurement and other matters. The meeting was told that 37 percent distribution of gunny bags has been completed among the farmers. Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah attended the meeting from civil secretariat while provincial ministers, secretaries, commissioners, deputy commissioners and police officials participated from their respective districts.
