Lahore, In a move aimed at enhancing the well-being of farmers and thereby ensuring the prosperity of Punjab, the provincial government has introduced the Kissan Card program. This initiative, developed through a collaboration between the Agriculture Department and the Bank of Punjab, was formalized with an MoU signed in the presence of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the agreement was inked by Secretary of Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo and President of Punjab Bank Zafar Masood during a ceremony attended by numerous dignitaries, including Senator Pervez Rashid, Minister for Information Azma Zahid Bokhari, and Minister for Agriculture Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain. The Kissan Card will provide farmers with direct subsidies for quality seeds, manure, and pesticides, in addition to offering financial loans and other assistance through the Bank of Punjab.
Chief Minister Sharif emphasized the pivotal role of farmers in the economic fabric of the province, stating that their prosperity is intrinsically linked to the overall well-being of Punjab. The Kissan Card is set to be a cornerstone in the government’s strategy to support farmers by making agricultural inputs more accessible and affordable, which is expected to increase agricultural productivity and sustainability.
The ceremony also highlighted the Bank of Punjab’s role as the initial partner in implementing the Kissan Card Program, marking a significant commitment to supporting the region’s agricultural sector through innovative financial solutions. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural infrastructure and providing continued support to its farmers, ensuring they have the necessary resources to thrive.
