Lahore: A video link meeting chaired by Additional IG Investigation Punjab, Azhar Akram, at the Central Police Office emphasized the rigorous implementation of the Anti-Rape Investigation and Trial Act 2021. The meeting, attended by DIG Legal Awais Ahmad Malik and all CPOs and DPOs, focused on ensuring that investigation officers are adequately trained and that investigations are handled with precision.
According to a statement by Punjab Police, Azhar Akram underscored the necessity for all investigation officers to enroll in IT-related courses to enhance their investigative capabilities. He stressed that investigations concerning scheduled crimes under Section 9 of the Act should be managed by the SSOI unit. Akram highlighted that 1,450 officers have received specialized training under the Act.
The directive further stated that if either a complainant or accused finds the investigation unsatisfactory, the SSP or SP should personally oversee the case. For cases needing a change of investigation, senior officers should be appointed to ensure thoroughness and impartiality.
Azhar Akram also pointed out that judicial matters under Section 9 and Standing Order 1/24 can be effectively managed by trained officers. He insisted that cases involving female complainants or accused be investigated by female officers and that all investigations under the 2021 Act should be assigned solely to trained personnel.
The meeting saw participation via video link from senior officials, including AIG Crime Monitoring Khalid Mahmood Afzal, DSP Legal-I Investigation Punjab Qadeer Anwar, and DSP RMU Muhammad Imran Haider Theme, along with all SSPs Investigation, SSPs RIB, and other officers.
