Punjab’s Highway Projects Save 11 Billion Rupees Through E-Tendering

Lahore: The Department of C and W in Punjab has reportedly saved approximately 11 billion rupees on highway projects through the implementation of e-tendering, marking a significant achievement in the province’s financial management and transparency in public projects.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Provincial Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth announced that the Highway Wing of the department utilized e-tendering for 398 projects, which were originally estimated to cost 62 billion rupees. However, through the e-tendering process, the bids received totaled only 51 billion rupees. This process not only saved substantial funds but also marked a milestone with zero complaints from contractors regarding the tendering process, setting a precedent for transparency and efficiency.

Minister Bharth further stated that the success of the e-tendering initiative could be attributed to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s policies aimed at enhancing transparency and reducing corruption within the province. He highlighted that e-tendering addressed several critical issues such as political interference, poll system, overcharging, and restricted information access.

Looking ahead, the Department of C and W is scheduled to continue with this approach, with e-tendering planned for an additional 50 highway projects on September 21 and 78 more on October 2. This ongoing commitment to e-tendering is expected to further streamline project costs and enhance procedural transparency.
