Quetta Moves to Modernize Livestock Sector, Introduces Reforms for Enhanced Productivity

Quetta: Provincial Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development, Bakht Mohammad Kakar, announced significant reforms aimed at transitioning the livestock sector from traditional practices to modern methodologies. These changes are designed to make the sector more profitable and productive. The announcement came during a one-day conference for the Annual Progressive Review Report of Livestock.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, during the conference, Divisional Directors, Deputy Directors, and Veterinary Doctors from the Animal Affairs Department presented updates on various aspects of the sector. They discussed the status of employee attendance, operational and non-operational dispensaries, animal data, and the efforts to diagnose diseases in remote areas through mobile relief camps. Recommendations and performance reports were also provided, emphasizing the need for technical support and registration processes for farmers across Balochistan.

Secretary Livestock Muhammad Tayyab Lahri emphasized the importance of professional performance, urging veterinary doctors to be present at their assigned locations and to focus on providing relief to livestock in remote areas. Minister Kakar highlighted the strategy to convert departmental weaknesses into strengths, with a focus on research and improvements in livestock management. He stressed the necessity for public engagement and responsibility towards government offices for community welfare and safety. Furthermore, he announced that legal actions, including potential dismissals, would be taken against staff who are absent or negligent.

The minister also disclosed plans to visit government poultry and dairy farms and to inspect district and divisional offices throughout the province to ensure ongoing improvements in efficiency. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to distinguished staff members for their contributions to the sector.
