Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced that Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television (PTV) are poised for significant changes. These transformations come as Pakistan prepares to host the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Champion Trophy, a notable event marking the return of major international sports competitions to the country.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Tarar expressed optimism about the revival of large-scale events in Pakistan after a prolonged hiatus. The announcement was made during a media briefing in Islamabad, where he highlighted the importance of the upcoming ICC event for Pakistan’s global image.
Tarar detailed the recent advancements in PTV Sports’ operations, including securing timely telecast rights for the ICC matches. The national broadcaster plans to enhance its programming by featuring notable cricket experts such as Shoaib Akhtar and Shoaib Malik. These steps are part of a broader effort to revitalize the PTV Sports channel through transparent initiatives.
The Minister also outlined forthcoming improvements for Radio Pakistan. A new online pension system has been implemented, and efforts to eliminate ghost employees are underway, which has resulted in significant public sector savings. Tarar emphasized the need for similar systems to be adopted across other departments to enhance efficiency and accountability.
