Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani Meets Iranian President to Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Regional Cooperation


Islamabad, The Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Yousuf Raza Gillani, welcomed the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation to Pakistan, reinforcing the importance of high-level engagements to promote regional cooperation and bilateral relations. During the meeting, Chairman Gillani emphasized the strong historical ties between his family and Iran, citing his ancestor, Hazrat Ghaus ul Azam, and his past visits to Iran, where he discussed the value of bilateral dialogue in enhancing relations between the two countries.



According to Press Information Department, Chairman Senate Gillani noted that Iran was the first country to recognize Pakistan in 1947, further strengthening the relationship. He celebrated the enduring connections between Pakistan and Iran, which are rooted in shared values and cultural heritage, contributing to regional stability and prosperity.



Chairman Gillani highlighted the need for greater parliamentary cooperation, suggesting more inter-parliamentary engagements and exchange programs to enhance the capacity and expertise of parliamentary staff. He also shared concerns over recent developments in Indian-occupied Kashmir, expressing gratitude for Iran’s continued support for the Kashmiri people.



During the meeting, both leaders discussed opportunities for enhanced cooperation and connectivity in various sectors that could benefit both countries. They also stressed the importance of addressing regional security challenges, including counterterrorism and border security, and reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and cooperation to maintain peace and stability in the region.



Chairman Gillani also emphasized the importance of promoting cultural and educational exchanges between Pakistan and Iran, aiming to foster greater understanding and goodwill among their people. Both leaders expressed optimism for the future of Pakistan-Iran relations and reiterated their commitment to further strengthening cooperation on regional and global issues of mutual interest.



President Raisi appreciated Chairman Gillani’s historical connection with Iran and acknowledged the spiritual bond that links the two countries. The meeting underscored the ongoing commitment to strengthening ties and fostering collaboration across multiple fronts.
