Sindh Chief Minister Orders Urgent Flood Preparedness Plan Amid Heavy Rainfall Forecasts

Karachi: In response to the Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy monsoon rains, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the Department of Irrigation and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to urgently prepare for potential river flooding and urban flood scenarios in Karachi. This directive comes amid concerns about the impact of the expected deluge on the city’s already strained infrastructure.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting held at the Chief Minister House in Karachi was attended by various provincial ministers, the Chief Secretary, and key officials from the meteorological and disaster management departments. Chief Meteorologist Dr. Sarfraz outlined the climatic factors influencing the monsoon, including sea surface temperatures and subtropical high pressures, which predict a 60-70% chance of above-average rainfall in Sindh. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of coordination among all relevant agencies, including law enforcement and the Pakistan Navy, to ensure swift action in the event of flooding.
