Karachi: As the heatwave persists across Sindh, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has ramped up its response activities from May 21 to July 4, 2024, by establishing an extensive network of heat stabilization camps and launching public awareness campaigns to safeguard residents from the scorching temperatures.
According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the PDMA along with District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and 40 humanitarian partners, have been closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts through the Provincial Emergency Operation Centre. This collaboration has led to the establishment of 294 heat stabilization camps across various districts, aimed at providing immediate relief to those affected by the heatwave.
Efforts also include the distribution of educational materials and the conduct of awareness sessions on the impact of heatwaves, facilitated by dedicated teams of Deputy Commissioners and Chairmen DDMAs who regularly visit the camps. In addition to these measures, these teams have initiated a Plantation Drive in several districts, which is aimed at reducing the local temperature and providing some respite from the heat.
