Srinagar, The night of Shab-e-Qadr, known as Laylatul Qadr or the Night of Destiny, brought a wave of religious fervor across Jammu and Kashmir, with major Masjids and shrines resonating with the sounds of Quranic recitations and prayers, despite notable restrictions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a large number of devotees thronged various religious sites to engage in the nightlong prayers associated with the 27th of Ramadan, recognized for its divine blessings. The Hazratbal shrine, situated along the Dal Lake, saw the most significant turnout, with thousands of worshippers from across the region participating in the solemn observances.
These gatherings were steeped in traditions such as Quran recitation, Naat Khawani, and Azkaar, with special sermons emphasizing the sanctity of the night and Ramadan’s broader spiritual significance. Families from different districts congregated, particularly at the Hazratbal shrine, to pray for mercy and blessings.
Although the religious zeal was palpable across the region, with all major Masjids and shrines in Srinagar hosting congregations, the historic Jamia Masjid remained closed during this pivotal night, a decision that led to widespread disappointment among the faithful. Furthermore, Mirwaiz Umar, a prominent religious leader in the region, faced house arrest, adding to the local community’s distress.
