World Bank and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Strengthen Cooperation on Development Projects

Peshawar, A World Bank delegation led by the Regional Vice President for South Asia, Martin Reiser, engaged in pivotal discussions with senior officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday, focusing on enhancing collaboration across various sectors including education, health, and infrastructure.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the meeting delved into the ongoing public welfare projects funded by the World Bank in the province. The discussions underscored the importance of increased cooperation in fields critical to regional development such as social welfare, agriculture, tourism, and technical education.

The provincial representatives, including Advisor to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Fakhar Jahan and MNA Faisal Amin Gandapur, emphasized the regional government’s appreciation for the World Bank’s support. They expressed a strong desire for continued collaboration, particularly highlighting the need for special attention from international partners due to the province’s extensive challenges related to its experience with terrorism.

Key topics of discussion included the empowerment of the youth through technical education aligned with market needs and the creation of new employment opportunities. The provincial government also plans to launch initiatives providing loans on easy terms to foster self-employment among the youth.

Additionally, the meeting touched on environmental initiatives, with plans to include the Billion Tree Plus project in the upcoming annual development program to combat climate change effects. The development of income-generating sectors was also discussed as a priority for fostering economic growth in the region.

The World Bank delegation affirmed its commitment to support the timely completion of ongoing projects and to explore avenues for expanding this partnership, ensuring mutual benefits and the socioeconomic upliftment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
