NDMA Pakistan Leads Global Disaster Management Discussions at UN INSARAG Meeting in Geneva

Islamabad, At the UN INSARAG Steering Group Meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan, under the leadership of its Chairman, Lieutenant General Inam Haider HM(I), played a pivotal role in shaping international disaster management strategies.

According to National Disaster Management Authority, the meeting, organized by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), brought together participants from various regions to address challenges in disaster preparedness and response, particularly those exacerbated by climate change. Lieutenant General Inam Haider, who is also the current Chair of the Asia Pacific Region for INSARAG, highlighted the urgent need for regional cooperation and the implementation of robust policy guidelines to improve disaster response mechanisms.

During his presentation on the “Governance Review Report and Recommendations,” Lt. Gen Inam emphasized the importance of training and simulation exercises for emergency response teams and advocated for the integration of technology to enhance disaster management efforts. He also pointed out the potential of innovative technologies in reducing disaster risks.

The session also featured the launch of the “INSARAG Turkey/Syria after Action Review Report” by Ahmet Dogas, Counselor at the UN Permanent Mission of the Republic of Turkiye, which underscored the importance of international collaboration for effective disaster response.

The INSARAG Steering Group Meeting serves as a crucial platform for fostering international collaboration, sharing best practices, and developing strategies for effective disaster response and recovery efforts globally. The discussions throughout the meeting emphasized the significance of community engagement and empowerment in building resilient communities worldwide.
