World Bank VP Martin Raiser Discusses Economic Support with Pakistan’s Finance Minister

Islamabad, World Bank’s South Asia Regional Vice President, Mr. Martin Raiser, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, to discuss economic issues and potential support. The high-level meeting focused on Pakistan’s economic stabilization efforts and reform agendas.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting also saw participation from the World Bank’s Country Director Mr. Najy Benhassine and senior officers from Pakistan’s Finance and Economic Affairs Divisions. Senator Aurangzeb briefed Mr. Raiser on Pakistan’s macroeconomic situation and outlined key government reform priorities including tax enhancement, energy cost reduction, State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) reforms, privatization, and human capital development.

Mr. Raiser expressed the World Bank’s readiness to provide technical assistance and financial support to help Pakistan achieve its developmental goals. Both parties discussed aligning the World Bank’s country partnership framework with Pakistan’s reform areas, focusing on energy sector enhancements, export boosts, microfinance, climate resilience, and social protection.
