World Drowning Prevention Day Highlights Global Crisis and Solutions

Islamabad: Today marks the observance of World Drowning Prevention Day, a global advocacy event dedicated to addressing one of the top causes of unintentional injury deaths worldwide.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, an estimated 236,000 people drown each year, making drowning the third leading cause of unintentional injury death globally. This accounts for 7 percent of all injury-related deaths. Children aged 5-14 years are particularly vulnerable, with drowning ranking among the top ten causes of death for this age group.

The day serves as a critical platform for raising awareness about the profound impact drowning has on families and communities and promoting effective, life-saving strategies to prevent these tragedies.
