Asian Development Bank to Provide Technical Assistance to Strengthen Pakistan’s Climate Finance Wing

Islamabad, Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination met with an Asian Development Bank (ADB) mission led by Senior Climate Change Specialist Mr. Nathan A. Rive to discuss ways to strengthen the climate finance wing of the ministry and set up resources for the wing. During the meeting, they addressed overlapping responsibilities and agreed to streamline the process for effective climate action.

According to Press Information Department, the ADB will provide technical assistance and training through climate finance experts to bolster the ministry’s climate finance wing. It was also agreed that there would be close collaboration and joint meetings among the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to tackle climate crisis challenges from a technical perspective.

Romina Khurshid Alam, PM’s Coordinator on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, emphasized the need for an Asian countries consortium and the establishment of a dashboard where data on all climate-related issues would be accessible to regional countries. This approach aims to promote regional cooperation and share resources for effective climate change mitigation.

The ADB mission commended the vision and commitment of the PM’s Coordinator to combat climate disasters, expressing confidence in achieving their goals under the leadership of Romina Khurshid Alam. The PM’s Coordinator assured ADB of the ministry’s full support and stated that no bureaucratic hurdles would be tolerated in pursuing climate-related initiatives.
