Balochistan Boosts Agriculture and Water Supply with Major Dam Projects

Islamabad, The government of Balochistan is undertaking significant efforts to improve water storage capacity and agricultural productivity through the construction of large dams across the province. The initiative, aimed at addressing the longstanding issue of water scarcity, includes the completion of several major dams and the planning of additional projects to enhance clean water supply and support the agricultural sector.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the initiative began in 2009 with a comprehensive project to construct one hundred dams in Balochistan, designed to be completed in five phases. Among the notable dams constructed are the Wali Tangi Dam in Urak Valley, Hub Dam in Lasbela, Mirani Dam in Kech District, and Sabakzai Dam in Zhob District. These projects are part of a broader strategy to not only bolster the region’s agriculture but also to improve the availability of clean water and increase the underground water level.

The construction of these dams is a crucial step toward mitigating the water scarcity problem in Balochistan, offering a sustainable solution to enhance the province’s agricultural productivity and ensure a stable water supply for its residents. Further projects aimed at water storage are also being considered to reinforce these efforts.
