Glacial Lake Outburst Flood Alert Issued for Badswat Nullah

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for a minor glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in Badswat Nullah, anticipated to cause localized flash flooding today.

According to Press Information Department, NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center has urged the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) and local administration to closely monitor the situation and prepare for potential evacuations. The advisory highlights the risk to temporary bridges and road connections in upstream areas and emphasizes the need for community-based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) teams to remain vigilant. The NDMA also advises the public to stay informed through the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app and avoid unnecessary travel.
