Karachi: The government has initiated a series of transformative measures aimed at addressing the infrastructure deficiencies in the nation’s maritime sector, including the establishment of a Maritime and Sea Port Authority. This strategic move is part of a wider reform plan that seeks to rehabilitate railway infrastructure and construct elevated expressways to bolster the capacities of the Karachi Port Trust.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the comprehensive reform plan will incorporate advanced technological solutions such as modern scanners for a complete inspection of containers, significantly reducing port clearance times. Additionally, the introduction of a Single Window Operation is set to enhance transparency in the port clearance process.
The initiative is also geared towards resolving infrastructure issues that have hindered the anchoring of large ships, a critical challenge for the maritime industry. In a promising development for the sector, Maersk, a global shipping giant, has shown interest in investing two billion dollars in Pakistan’s Maritime Sector.
The government anticipates that these reforms will not only improve the efficiency of the maritime sector but also stimulate economic growth and attract further global investment.
