Karachi, Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tesori has inaugurated the 9th Command and Control Room at the Defense Police Station in Karachi, marking a significant advancement in the city’s community policing efforts. This latest addition to Karachi’s law enforcement infrastructure is part of the Karachi Community Policing Plan, aimed at bolstering the city’s capabilities in preventing and responding to crime through the use of modern technology.
According to Sindh Governor House, this new Command and Control Room is equipped with the latest camera technology to ensure the capture of clear images and videos of criminal activities, enhancing the police’s ability to address crime effectively. The initiative reflects a broader effort to replicate this advanced surveillance system across all police stations in Karachi, responding to the urgent need to curb the city’s rising street crime rates.
The inauguration follows the establishment of similar facilities in Azizabad, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Malir City, Soldier Bazar, New Sabzi Mandi, Napier, and Guzri police stations. These efforts have reportedly led to a significant reduction in crime rates, with areas under surveillance experiencing a 40 to 50 percent decrease in criminal incidents.
The opening of the Defense Police Station’s Command and Control Room comes amid public concern over high-profile criminal cases, such as the tragic killing of Rider Ali Rehbar during a robbery protest, highlighting the critical importance of enhancing police surveillance and response mechanisms. Governor Tesori’s initiative underscores a commitment to leveraging technology in the fight against crime, aiming to provide a safer environment for the residents of Karachi.
