Islamabad Advocates for UN-Led Initiative to Boost Sustainable Infrastructure Investment

Islamabad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, called for enhanced global efforts to overcome the hurdles obstructing sustainable infrastructure development in the developing world, particularly highlighting the crucial need for increased public and private investments and the development of viable projects.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, speaking at the UN General Assembly during an informal dialogue on ‘Building global resilience and promoting sustainable development through infrastructure connectivity’, Ambassador Akram identified the scarcity of resources and the lack of bankable projects as significant barriers. He articulated Pakistan’s longstanding position that mobilizing concessional finance is imperative to mitigate risks, bolster creditworthiness, and secure better financing conditions. Such measures would entice private sector participation in infrastructure endeavors, which is essential to close the investment gap.

Ambassador Akram’s remarks underscore Pakistan’s commitment to fostering international cooperation to build resilient and sustainable infrastructure, a move that is seen as vital for the socio-economic development of emerging economies.
