Islamabad, Presidential Election Underway in Pakistan’s Capital

Islamabad, The highly anticipated Presidential election in Pakistan is currently taking place in the Parliament House of Islamabad, where members of both the National Assembly and Senate are casting their votes for the country’s next President.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the poll, which started early today, is set to conclude at 4:00 PM, with Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq overseeing the process as the Presiding Officer. The race for presidency sees Asif Ali Zardari, a joint candidate from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), competing against Mahmood Khan Achakzai from the Sunni Ittehad Council.

The President of Pakistan is selected by an electoral college that includes the members of the Senate, the National Assembly, and the provincial assemblies. The election is conducted through a secret ballot to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the voting process.

Concurrently, the provincial assemblies are also in session to partake in the pivotal electoral process. High-profile politicians including Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari, and Leader of the House in the Senate Ishaq Dar have been among the first to exercise their electoral duties.
