Kashmiri Leaders Accuse Indian Government of Targeting Muslims with CAA Rules

Srinagar, In a strong critique of the Indian government’s recent actions, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, prominent political figures in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, have labeled the notification of rules for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as an attempt to marginalize Muslims and manipulate voter sentiment through divisive politics.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Omar Abdullah, the National Conference vice president, articulated his concerns in Srinagar, suggesting that the timing of the CAA rules notification, just before the Lok Sabha elections, clearly indicates the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) underlying intentions toward Muslim residents in India. He alleged that the BJP was employing religious polarization as a strategy to achieve its political goals and claimed that the party was resorting to such measures out of a realization that it was losing ground among the electorate.

Furthermore, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti, in her remarks shared on the social media platform X, criticized the BJP for adhering to the divisive two-nation theory, decades after the Partition of India. She argued that the implementation of the CAA was an attempt by the BJP to incite communal division and distract from its policy failures. Mufti also warned against the BJP’s tactics and urged all communities, particularly Muslims, to remain vigilant and united against such divisive strategies.
