Lahore Senior Minister Reviews Mental Health Facilities, Plans for Modernization

Lahore, Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb toured the Lahore Institute of Mental Health today, inspecting facilities as part of an initiative under Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directive to modernize treatment for mental illnesses and enhance mental health institutions.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Minister Aurangzeb examined both male and female wards, the medical facilities, and infrastructure to assess the current state of the institute. She reviewed the availability of medicines, staffing of doctors, and the methodologies employed in treating patients. The visit also included discussions with patients’ relatives to understand their concerns and experiences with the facility’s services.

During her visit, Aurangzeb announced plans for implementing digital mapping in mental health services and launching a public awareness campaign aimed at educating about mental health treatments. She highlighted the introduction of modern treatment methods and technology in mental health care, addressing the growing need for mental health services and the particular shortage of child psychologists in Pakistan.

The Minister emphasized that the Chief Minister of Punjab had ordered integrated reforms in mental health care, directing the acquisition of modern machinery and facilities to provide substantial relief to those suffering from psychological issues and to foster a healthier, happier community.
