Islamabad, May 08, 2013 (PPI-OT): I wish to greet Pakistan Red Crescent Society and tens of thousands of workers and volunteers of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) across the globe on this World Red Cross Day, commemorating the 150th anniversary of continued service to humanity.
Serving humanity voluntarily and regardless of considerations of nationality, race, religion, class, colour, creed, gender or political persuasion has earned the organization the genuine respect and admiration of all civilized people of which it can be rightly proud.
The celebration today is also an occasion for every member and volunteer to reiterate their commitment towards those core values that have provided strength to the organization enabling it to steer through thick and thin.
On this occasion, let us also spare a thought and pay our tributes to Jean Henri Dunant, the great social activist, for pioneering the idea of establishing an organization dedicated to alleviating the sufferings of people.
The Day is also a reminder of the great value of selfless efforts, both at individual and communal levels, which can make our country and the world a better place to live.
Once again, I congratulate all those who are associated with ICRC and its noble mission. I would also like to assure the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, of every possible support of the government in its humanitarian endeavours and towards making it a strong and a vibrant body.
