Minister Leghari Vows to Eradicate Electricity Theft in Pakistan


Islamabad, Minister for Power, Awais Leghari, has declared a zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft, describing it as “economic terrorism” that significantly undermines the nation’s economy. In a firm address to the Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of Power Distribution Companies via video link, Leghari outlined his commitment to eliminating all forms of power theft across the country.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Minister stressed the necessity of dismantling any barriers that impede the effective prevention of electricity theft. He issued a stark warning that employees and officers found complicit in these illegal activities would face strict and decisive action. Furthermore, Leghari reassured that the campaign against electricity theft would proceed without political interference, signaling a robust and impartial approach to tackling the issue.



This initiative reflects the government’s intensified efforts to safeguard the power sector’s integrity and efficiency, recognizing the critical role of reliable electricity supply in sustaining economic growth and development. Leghari’s resolve to confront electricity theft head-on underscores a broader strategy aimed at enhancing the operational performance of power distribution networks and ensuring the financial viability of the energy sector.
