Muzaffarabad, A significant protest erupted in Muzaffarabad over the forced closure of Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid in Jammu and Kashmir by Indian authorities, particularly on the significant occasion of Jumat-ul-Wida.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration, led by Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, took place at Khatm-e-Nabuwat Chowk, where participants condemned the Indian government’s actions. The protestors, voicing their dissent, proceeded from the chowk to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, displaying banners and chanting slogans advocating for freedom and denouncing India’s policies in Kashmir.
Speakers at the protest highlighted the perceived systematic denial of religious freedoms to Kashmiri Muslims, specifically criticizing the closure of the mosque during a crucial religious event. They accused the Indian authorities, particularly under the Bharatiya Janata Party, of imposing a Hindutva agenda in Jammu and Kashmir and called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to address these actions.
The leaders at the demonstration, including notable figures from Pasban-e-Hurriyat, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the Peoples Party, called for international attention to the infringement of religious rights in Kashmir, urging global actors to advocate against the Indian government’s measures in the region.
