Pakistan and Iran Discuss Prisoner Exchange and Boost in Trade Relations

Islamabad, In a significant diplomatic engagement, a meeting between a high-level Iranian delegation and Pakistan’s Minister for Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, took place in Islamabad, focusing on prisoner exchange and enhancing bilateral trade and tourism.

According to Press Information Department, the Iranian delegation, led by Dr. Askar Galailan, Deputy Justice Minister for Human Rights and International Affairs, highlighted the presence of 160 Pakistani prisoners in Iran and 60 Iranian detainees in Pakistan. The proposal for a humanitarian-based prisoner release, facilitating the return of detainees to their respective countries, was positively received by Minister Tarar, who pledged comprehensive cooperation for the initiative, particularly for those not legally charged with crimes.

The discussions also ventured into improving travel and business conditions to strengthen tourism and trade between the two nations, underscoring a mutual commitment to fostering a beneficial relationship.
