Islamabad, In an initiative aimed at supporting public health, the Pakistan Army organized a free medical camp in Chitianwala, located in the outskirts of Lahore, offering medical services to the local population and neighboring village residents.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the camp saw the participation of numerous doctors and paramedical staff who provided examinations and treatments to hundreds of individuals. The effort is expected to benefit over 1500 patients, demonstrating a significant outreach in medical care. The initiative has been met with gratitude from the community members, who have expressed appreciation for the Pakistan Army’s commitment to public welfare. This medical camp not only underscores the army’s role in healthcare provision but also strengthens the ties between the military and the civilian population, reflecting a multifaceted approach to serving the nation beyond its traditional defense remit.

Islamabad, Asif Ali Zardari was sworn in as the 14th President of Pakistan on Sunday, marking his second term in the nation’s highest office. The oath-taking ceremony, conducted by Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, was held at the President House in Islamabad and attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, among other dignitaries.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Zardari, representing a coalition of the PML-N and PPP, won the presidential election against Mahmood Khan Achakzai of the Sunni Ittehad Council. His victory signifies a historic moment as Zardari becomes the first elected president of Pakistan to serve a second term. Previously, he led the country from 2008 to 2013, completing his first term as the 11th President of Pakistan and the first politician to do so since the office was established.

During his first tenure, President Zardari was instrumental in enacting the 18th Amendment, which redistributed presidential powers to enhance parliamentary democracy and increased provincial autonomy. He was also known for his efforts towards political reconciliation and implementing policies that advanced media freedom, telecommunications, energy sector revival, foreign direct investment, and the strengthening of state-owned enterprises.

Furthermore, Zardari’s leadership saw the consensus on the seventh National Finance Commission award, granting greater financial autonomy to the provinces, and the introduction of the Aghaz-i-Huqooq-i-Balochistan package, aimed at accelerating development in Balochistan. Additionally, he launched Pakistan’s National Emergency Action Plan in 2011 to combat polio, demonstrating his commitment to public health.

Zardari’s reelection to the presidency is anticipated to continue his legacy of democratic reform and development initiatives across Pakistan.
