New York, Pakistan has been unanimously elected to chair the United Nations Disarmament Commission, assuming a pivotal role amid global concerns over escalating military tensions and trust deficits among major world powers.

According to Pakistan Mission to United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, the deputy permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, was appointed as the chairman for the 2024 session of the Commission, a key body under the UN General Assembly focusing on disarmament issues. Ambassador Jadoon pledged to facilitate constructive dialogue and work closely with member states to address the complex challenges in disarmament.

Highlighting the distinct functions of the Disarmament Commission as a deliberative body, Jadoon emphasized the need for flexible and respectful attitudes to foster consensus and inclusive solutions. His election, supported by the Asia-Pacific Group and all UN Member States, signifies international trust in Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy in disarmament affairs.
