Pakistan High Commission London celebrates Pakistan Day

Islamabad, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): To celebrate Pakistan Day, a flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan High Commission in London today despite severe cold and snowing. High Commissioner Mr Wajid Shamsul Hasan hoisted the national flag and the messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan for this occasion were read out, says a press release received here today from London.

Both the leaders paid fulsome tribute to the heroic struggle of the Muslims of the Sub-continent for an independent homeland under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It was because of the vision of the founding fathers that the Muslims of the Sub-continent achieved Pakistan on 14th August1947, they stated.

Both the leaders said that the Pakistan Day this year would go down in the history of the country as a memorable day when the democratically elected Parliament and the government completed, for the first time, its constitutionally mandated term and the nation was poised for a democratic transition. In their messages they underlined the importance of continuity of democracy in Pakistan.

In his address the High Commissioner said that Pakistan came into existence as a result of countless sacrifices in blood, toil and tears of the masses who remained steadfast in their commitment to pursue the destiny chosen for them by Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal and those great leaders who braved worst possible persecution to keep alighted the torch of democracy.

The final goal for Pakistan was decided on March 23rd 1940 in Lahore under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he said. The Qaid’s unflinching faith in the democratic destiny of the nation for a socio-economic egalitarian system, he said, helped the Muslims of the Sub-continent achieve it in a short span of seven years.

The High Commissioner paid rich tribute to the sacrifices made by the armed forces and the people of Pakistan in war against terror. He also expressed his deep satisfaction on the completion of constitutional tenure of the Parliament and the government for the first time in Pakistan’s history which would lead to further strengthening of democracy in Pakistan.

High Commissioner paid rich tributes to President Zardari for his politics of reconciliation and consensus as per the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto that have paved the path for first ever elections to be held under democratic government after completion of its five-year tenure.

High Commissioner also lauded the role of all political stake holders for the success of democracy. He especially praised Army Chief General Kayani for his role as pillar of strength for the continuation of the democratic dispensation.

The school children presented popular national songs on this occasion. Begum Zarina Wajid Hasan distributed the prizes among the children.

A large number of Pakistani Diaspora and media attended the ceremony.
