Pakistan Plans Urea Fertilizer Imports to Secure Crop Yields for Kharif Season

Islamabad, The Fertilizer Review Committee has proposed the import of 200,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer for the upcoming Kharif season to preempt any potential shortages and ensure food security.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the committee, chaired by the Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, recognized a 3.6 percent increase in the demand for urea fertilizer compared to last year. Minister Hussain stressed that the import is crucial for maintaining the productivity of farmers and safeguarding the country’s food security.

Additionally, Hussain assured that local urea manufacturing plants would operate at full capacity and that the government is committed to providing uninterrupted gas supply to the fertilizer industry, which is vital for continuous production.
