Islamabad: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has emphasized that Pakistan, despite its minimal contribution to global environmental pollution, faces significant challenges as the country most affected by climate change in terms of population exposure. Addressing an event organized by the Islamic Circle of North America’s (ICNA) humanitarian wing, Helping Hand, the Ambassador underscored the severe impact of climate change on Pakistan’s developmental progress and economic expansion.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Sheikh noted that the frequency and intensity of natural disasters resulting from climate change have increased in recent years, presenting unprecedented challenges to the country’s development path. He described climate change as a global crisis that transcends national and regional boundaries, urging the international community to collaborate in addressing this shared threat.
Highlighting Pakistan’s frontline role in combating terrorism, Ambassador Sheikh pointed out that the nation now finds itself on the forefront of the battle against climate change. He assured that the Government of Pakistan is making concerted efforts to assist affected families and reduce the damage caused by natural disasters.
The Ambassador praised the philanthropic efforts of the Pakistani diaspora, noting their admirable contributions during times of crisis. He called on the Pakistani-American community to once again unite in the spirit of patriotism and humanity, actively contributing to relief for flood-affected families and areas.
