Pakistan’s President Advocates for Enhanced Trade and Solidarity with Iran and Palestine, Islamabad

Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the importance of expanding barter trade and economic relations with Iran, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Palestine during discussions with the ambassadors of Iran and Palestine. These meetings highlighted the potential for greater economic cooperation with Iran and Pakistan’s enduring support for the Palestinian cause amid ongoing conflicts in the Gaza Strip.

According to Press Information Department, President Zardari, in his meeting with Iran’s Ambassador Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam, underscored the possibilities for broadening economic ties between Pakistan and Iran, particularly through barter trade. The discussions covered enhancing trade volume, banking cooperation, and improving air and business connections. The Iranian Ambassador pointed out the strategic advantages of the Chahbahar-Zahedan railroad for accessing Central Asia, Europe, and Turkiye, projecting a positive trajectory for bilateral relations under President Zardari’s leadership.

In a subsequent meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Ahmed Jawad Rabei, President Zardari expressed distress over the suffering of Palestinians due to Israeli actions in Gaza. He reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding solidarity with Palestine and announced plans to send additional humanitarian aid to the region. The discussions also acknowledged the contributions of Pakistani educational institutions in supporting over 50,000 Palestinian graduates, underlining the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

The engagements reflect Pakistan’s active role in fostering regional partnerships and its commitment to international humanitarian principles, particularly in supporting the Palestinian people amid their ongoing struggle.
