Pakistan’s Tech Industry on the Path to Becoming Regional Hub, Says Ambassador Masood Khan

Washington DC, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, remarked that Pakistan’s tech industry is on the cusp of becoming a regional technology hub, with significant growth in recent years. He noted that Pakistani IT products and services have increasingly found their way into the United States and other developed markets, indicating a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.

According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Masood Khan highlighted the support that Pakistani tech startups receive from leading U.S. venture capitalists, showcasing the exceptional skills of Pakistan’s tech-savvy youth. He addressed over 30 CEOs and founders of leading tech startups owned by Pakistani-Americans, which have grown into multi-million-dollar entities offering technological and IT solutions across various fields, including cybersecurity, healthcare, education, and retail.

Paklaunch, a platform dedicated to fostering Pakistan’s entrepreneurial and investment ecosystem, was also represented at the meeting by its CEO and Founder, Aly Fahad. Founded in April 2020, Paklaunch has grown from seven members to a community of 350,000, aiding in the success of 90 startups and raising over $90 million for emerging companies. The platform aims to help build Pakistan into a top 10 tech ecosystem in the world by 2030 through advisory services, training, fund-raising, and other initiatives.

Ambassador Masood Khan praised Paklaunch’s efforts, describing it as a “momentous and consequential initiative” for supporting budding entrepreneurs. He credited Aly Fahad for his visionary leadership and acknowledged Paklaunch’s role in nurturing tech startups in Pakistan. The Ambassador also highlighted the work of the Special Investment Facilitation Council in promoting foreign investment, especially in IT, agriculture, energy, and extractive industries.

The meeting concluded with a decision to make the Embassy of Pakistan a nodal point for connecting Pakistani-American entrepreneurs and tech companies with relevant ministries and departments in Pakistan. Ambassador Masood Khan urged the CEOs and founders of tech companies to expand their investments in Pakistan, promising all possible facilitation and support from the Embassy.
