Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has advocated for an expansion of bilateral relations with Turkmenistan across various sectors, emphasizing the shared regional goals of peace and prosperity.
According to Press Information Department, during a meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, President Zardari expressed a commitment to strengthening ties through increased connectivity, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges. The discussions underscored the mutual benefits of enhanced access to Pakistan’s Gwadar port and the potential for Turkmen students to pursue medical studies in Pakistan.
The two leaders also reviewed the progress made during the Third Round of Bilateral Political Consultations held earlier that day, focusing on strategic initiatives like constructing motorways and railways through Afghanistan to better connect the two nations.
Foreign Minister Meredov affirmed Turkmenistan’s intention to continue fostering economic, cultural, and educational ties with Pakistan, highlighting the strong relationship between the two countries. President Zardari reciprocated the warm sentiments and expressed anticipation for an upcoming visit from Turkmenistan’s Grand Leader, H.E Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
