Punjab Probation and Parole Service Hosts Reformation Ceremony at Government College University Lahore

Lahore, Punjab Probation and Parole Service, Home Department organized an awareness session on “Restoration of Justice, Probation and Parole” in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, Government College University, Lahore at Bukhari Auditorium. The seminar was well attended by probationers as well as students of GC University.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Chairman Akhwat Foundation Amjad Saqib emphasized the importance of reform and awareness sessions in restoring the lives of criminals. He advocated for the continuation of such initiatives. Director General Punjab Probation and Parole Service Shahid Iqbal, addressing the participants, mentioned that activities are being organized in collaboration with higher education institutions across Punjab to bridge the gap between theory and practice. He highlighted that during the session, about 100 students from various disciplines were given an opportunity to interact with 150 offenders, especially focusing on forensic psychology.

Director General Shahid Iqbal further noted that awareness sessions on probation and parole are crucial for various stakeholders, including community members, offenders, probation and parole officers, law enforcement agencies, and students. These correctional sessions play a significant role in enhancing public perception and confidence in the criminal justice system. He added that such sessions can foster a more informed and supportive community, resulting in a more effective probation and parole system, and empowering offenders to take responsibility for their actions and rehabilitation.

Participating probationers in the correctional sessions organized under the direction of Punjab Home Department expressed their views regarding the training and other facilities provided to them in front of the audience. Probation Officer Mahin Solat, Chairperson of the Psychology Department of Government College University Lahore Professor Dr. Salma Hasan, Heads of Social Sciences and Law Departments, faculty members, students of GCU, and people involved in minor crimes were also present at the session.
