Qatar Commits to Supporting Pakistan in Climate-Resilient Development

Islamabad: In a significant boost to Pakistan’s efforts to combat climate change, Qatar has pledged extensive support for the country’s climate-vulnerable sectors including health, education, food security, water, and energy. This commitment was formalized during a meeting between a high-level Qatari technical delegation, led by Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al-Abdullah, and Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, held in Islamabad today.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions centered on enhancing Pakistan’s resilience to climate impacts through collaboration in climate risk management, environment conservation, water management, energy solutions, forestry, and national disaster risk management. The Qatari delegation assured comprehensive technical and non-technical support to aid Pakistan in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change, including environmental conservation and flood protection.

During the meeting, Romina Khurshid Alam detailed the Pakistani government’s current initiatives aimed at boosting the nation’s climate resilience and safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of its most vulnerable communities. She underscored the increasing severity of climate impacts on Pakistan, noting recent heat waves and devastating floods that have strained various sectors of the economy.

Colonel Al-Abdullah commended Pakistan’s proactive measures in environment conservation, climate risk management, and disaster preparedness. In response, Alam expressed gratitude for Qatar’s pledged support, emphasizing its importance in achieving Pakistan’s environmental conservation and climate adaptation goals.

The partnership marks a critical step in international cooperation on climate action, highlighting the shared commitment of Qatar and Pakistan to sustainable development and disaster-resilient infrastructure.
