SAARC-TPN delegation visits Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry

Karachi, June 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): SAARC-TPN (Trade Promotion Network) delegation comprising Horst Amman and Sushmita Pradhan visited Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and met with the acting president Rukhsana Jehangir on Monday June. The main focus of the meeting was increasing sustainable and long lasting cooperation between SAARC member countries and GIZ through involvement of local chambers.

Amman gave an overview of the activities of GIZ in SAARC countries and the various initiatives taken by the organization for the development of SAARC countries. He said that GIZ categorizes activities in 5 work groups (NTBs, SMEs, Trade Information Portal, B2B, Capacity Development Project), and these groups are essential towards integration of social ecological markets in the region. SAARC Chambers should involve more local businesses and chambers in its activities so as to make the body more effective.

Acting President FPCCI Rukhsana reiterated that more participation and eagerness by Chambers and Associations was the key towards sustainable and long lasting economic development in SAARC regions. President said that FPCCI is ready to extend all possible support if SAARC-TPN decides to hold b2b sessions in Pakistan. Ammann appreciated all the help extended by FPCCI and said that things are moving in the right direction.

Vice President Gulzar Firoz said that aside from economic and social development in SAARC region, we should also look into the impact of Environment and a firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility as this was one area that was severely lacking in our countries. He said SAARC-TPN should support enhancement of CSR and environmental safety.

He said that a formal two page proposal can be sent to them for further deliberation. He further stated that there should be continued collaboration and contact between all participants who meet in B2B sessions organized by SAARC-TPN as this was the key in developing sustainable relationships between the countries and its human and social resources.

Rukhsana Jehangir thanked Horst Amman and Sushmita Pradhan reassured that FPCCI was willing to provide full support to any organization and all initiatives aimed towards developing regional cooperation.
