Senators Urge for Democratic Strengthening and Economic Revival in Farewell Addresses

Islamabad, As their tenure comes to an end, outgoing Senators have made a unified call for the reinforcement of democratic norms and collaborative efforts to navigate the country through its economic challenges. In a series of farewell speeches, the senators highlighted various strategies to mitigate financial crises and bolster economic ties, especially with neighboring nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Mehr Taj Roghani, in her parting address, advocated for austerity measures to reduce the nation’s expenditure. She proposed a total prohibition on providing free petrol, electricity, and other amenities to high-ranking officials as a step towards financial prudence. Maula Bakhsh Chandio, another departing senator, urged for a departure from glorifying past achievements to focus on development and prosperity. Chandio also expressed gratitude towards the media for their support and role in highlighting his contributions during his tenure.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, speaking on a point of order, underscored the importance of improving trade and economic relations with neighboring countries, particularly Afghanistan. Highlighting the current visit of a trade delegation from Afghanistan’s business community to Pakistan, Syed emphasized the need to address their concerns to facilitate smoother trade relations between the two nations.

The session was concluded with the announcement that the House would reconvene at 10:30 in the morning the following day, marking a continued dialogue on these pressing issues.
