Karachi, In a meeting focused on enhancing educational and health infrastructure in Sindh, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Japanese Ambassador Mr. WADA Mitsuhiro discussed the ongoing projects financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), amounting to Rs 8,500.5 million.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the engagement between the Sindh government and JICA was productive, covering significant developmental initiatives. The meeting, which also saw participation from key diplomatic and provincial officials, centered on the progress of various projects, including the upgrade of girls’ schools in rural areas, flood response education facility reconstruction, and the establishment of a maternal and child health care center.
The chief minister detailed the progress in upgrading girls’ schools to elementary schools with a budget of Rs 2,287.24 million, noting that the first phase of construction was underway in Khairpur and Naushehroferoze districts, with future expansions planned for Sukkur, Larkana, and Malir, Karachi.
In flood response efforts, Shah outlined a Rs 1.566 billion project to rebuild education facilities damaged by recent floods, emphasizing the reconstruction and solarization of primary school buildings across nine districts.
Furthermore, the establishment of a Maternal and Child Health Care Center at Liaquat University Hospital, Jamshoro, was discussed, highlighting a Rs 4,963.331 million investment aimed at enhancing healthcare services and reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the region.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to regular reviews of these projects to ensure timely completion, reflecting a continued partnership between the Sindh government and JICA in addressing critical development needs in the province.
