Islamabad, On the eve of Youm-e-Takbeer, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq commemorated the 28th of May, 1998, as the day Pakistan established itself as a nuclear power, the seventh nation to achieve such a capability. The nuclear tests of that day, he remarked, were a definitive stance on Pakistan’s national security, ensuring the regional balance of power.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Sadiq praised the collective efforts of Pakistani scientists, engineers, the armed forces, and political leaders who played a crucial role in the nuclear tests. He expressed special gratitude towards former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his leadership during a period marked by significant international pressure.
The Speaker highlighted the importance of these nuclear capabilities in enhancing Pakistan’s security and how they reflected the country’s ability to overcome challenges. He reaffirmed the commitment of the government, the parliament, and the people to safeguard national sovereignty and independence.
Further, Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah also delivered a message, applauding the contributions of Pakistan’s scientists and engineers and the political foresight of leaders like Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who laid the groundwork for the nuclear program. Shah emphasized the resilience and capability of the Pakistani people to excel across various fields.
