Islamabad: The tourism sector in Pakistan is expected to see a significant revenue boost, projected to exceed $30 billion over the next five to six years, thanks to the initiatives spearheaded by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the ‘Green Tourism Company’, established in collaboration with the SIFC, has been actively investing in rejuvenating neglected tourism infrastructures to bolster Pakistan’s reputation as a travel-friendly destination. This endeavor spans across both short-term projects, such as enhancing service infrastructure, and long-term projects aimed at developing sustainable, environmentally friendly facilities.
As part of the first phase of this ambitious initiative, 20 sites across the country have been earmarked for development, with a notable 25 percent of these locations situated in Gilgit-Baltistan. The ‘Green Tourism Company’ has already funneled three billion rupees into these areas. The project promises significant economic benefits for the region, providing direct employment to over 300 individuals and indirect job opportunities to approximately 4,000 more.
The initiative underscores an eco-friendly approach that not only aims to preserve but also promote the local culture, including culinary arts, traditional crafts, and natural resources.
