U.S. Institute of Peace Enhances Cooperation with Punjab Police for Community Projects

Lahore, A delegation from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) visited the Central Police Office to discuss enhanced cooperation with the Punjab Police. The discussions centered on modern training initiatives and the development of community policing, particularly focusing on the support and protection of vulnerable groups within the region.

According to Punjab Police, the meeting was chaired by Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and included USIP Program Managers Sadia Sabir and Rana Hamza Ejaz, and Senior Analyst Maryam Kayani. The “Police Awam Sath Sath Project,” facilitated by USIP, was highlighted as a pivotal initiative in fostering community policing efforts. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar detailed the achievements under this program, including the establishment of the Women Police Council and the training of victim support officers. Further discussions included the creation of a legal framework for the Tahaffuz trust to oversee community policing projects effectively.

The meeting also addressed the integration of transgenders into the police force, with specific quotas set for their recruitment as Senior Station Assistant and Police Station Assistant. Dr. Anwar emphasized the ongoing efforts to provide medical facilities and easy medical diagnosis for transgender individuals in all hospitals.

Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Amara Athar shared insights on the collaboration with 387 organizations to advance community policing and aid citizens facing social issues. She noted the completion of child registrations at the Tahaffuz Manzil Foster Home and the development of a related dashboard.

The visit concluded with the Punjab Police presenting an honorary shield to Sadia Sabir, head of the USIP delegation, recognizing the fruitful partnership and mutual commitment to enhancing community relations and police training in Punjab.
